Illustration Friday-Pattern

I wasn't even going to do an illustration this week for "Illustration Friday" (as I am working on a commission for www.jerbl.com) but I had a sudden bout of energy... haha! All well....so much for Biology Homework! sigh...

For this illustration I used ink and watercolors! I am learning (as I had forgotten) That LESS watercolors is best! I was tending to plaster it on and consequently it wasn't behaving like I wanted it too. :P haha

Lessons to be learned!

Geez, it seems I'm on some kinda journey of wisdom! Haha!

An issue that many artists have is that they look too much at what they "could be" or "might be able to do" versus "what they can do" and "who they are!" They tend to get preoccupied by the flashy "what-ifs"...and what often results is they run faster than they have strength and/or their mind runs faster than their feet. So they trip, get frustrated at themselves and ultimately feel like they are going nowhere and/or failing.

So some basic rules that I would suggest to anyone in order to avoid that in the future:

1)Realize that art is simple (mentally speaking) and simplify it (don’t complicate it. )
-I have noticed that if people tell me that what they are explaining is too hard or difficult or even complicated, sometimes my mind makes it too hard, difficult and complicated to understand! It's a trick of the mind.
2)Do what you can and be who you are, added with attainable constant improvements!!!

Regarding the artwork, I will be surprised if anyone can guess what type of medium I used!(Especially if you can guess the brand! haha!) I will give a hint, I did it at school in the library...so its not super amazing art supplies...

Watercolor secret learned!

As some of you may know I was recently married. Well one of the gifts we received was a caricature of Cheri, my wife, and me from a good friend and fellow artist, Maho Garner. I was studying it today and like a ton of bricks I suddenly realized the way to master watercolors was not through random mastery (let it do what it does), nor was it through absolute control, it is just in keeping it light and simple. Let the colors do their thing...and on good paper! (paper can make or break a watercolor...) That's where this pic came from. It's just a sketch/study.

Illustration Friday-Welcome

Well, here another week has passed by and I finished a new piece of artwork. Like all of my other Illustration Friday artworks, I did alot...I mean alot of exploration in technique and method practices (though I AM starting to get a feel for painting in Photoshop) So I hope that everyone enjoys!

For this piece, all linework was done with pencil, scanned and then colored in photoshop.

Life Drawing sketches

Since I really don't want to take the real Life Drawing class (as I find it crude and boring) I spend 2-3 hours a week drawing people around me (often at school). I find greater satisfaction in catching the fleeting moment of REAL people,s emotions, expressions and actions! I hope that all of this is portrayed in these! Enjoy!

Illustration Friday - Strong

Oh my GOSH! What a royal pain. It seems that with every Illustration Friday image I explore new mediums...or at least a different approach in how I normally use them...and today was Watercolor. I've done watercolor before, but this one rebelled against me and we had a long hard fight! haha! Anyway, I would like everyone to know that I made NO alterations after scanning...except for adjusting "Levels" in Photoshop. I hope that everyone enjoys! ^_^

Today's Nonsense - September

This is my newest comic. I definitely used a new approach... It seems that each semester with the first comic I dangerously branch out in new directions! Haha! Hope everyone enjoys.

Illustration Friday-Magnify

I have to tell you that this weeks was pretty hard. haha! I think that Magnify was an obscure word to base an illustration off of...but I ended up doing it! What's sad is that I really like this illustration too! Haha

This was made in Photoshop. I branched out from my normal methods I use for my monthly comics (as seen in my blog) and ended up being very pleased with the end results. Please enjoy!

Mouse Marvel Merger!

What the flippin ding dang crap of tardness! WHere in the freakin heck did this come from? HUH? Disney has definately stepped OVER their boundries!!! I didn't believe it when my brother told me and even sent me an article about how Disney has bought out Marvel. THE MARVEL! One of the articles I read were like, "What a dream matchup!" Ok....I really don't see it. Wolverine...Mickey Mouse... Uh....something doesn't match here. A good point was mentioned that Disney has been having a hard time capturing boys in their sticky money web ....(Duh..can't imagine why as billions of girls ooze at Disney's seams right now with princess's and singing tween stars!!!)

BUT MARVEL? Marvel wasn't struggling. They weren't dealing with any big issue. They could take care of themselves.....WHAT in the flippin WORLD! GEEZ! I really don't understand this.

So what is next? Based upon our capatilst society Disney is getting pretty large! They already consumed Pixar, the muppets, and now MARVEL? They own Miramax, and they distribute Ghibli...how much more do they need? I really don't understand this move, except that Disney is striving to become a God in the American eyes...or better yet the WORLD.
I think that I'm done with my rantingness....even still.. WTC!
