Illustration Friday-Hatch

This is my 17th and practically consecutive Illustration Friday. For the entire semester I did an Illustration for every week. WOW! My school semester is over now and I also graduated from MCC Longview! Yay! (Now onto UCM to get my degree!)

If you are confused about the pictures then let me explain, I wanted to draw 2-3 pictures conveying a story rather than one. So instead of spending huge amounts of time on one picture I spread it out onto three pictures.

So in order to create a clearer mental picture of the setting and the characters I wrote a short story regarding the topic this week, which was , "Hatch." Basically this girl is wandering through a dreary and dense forest....for some reason. She comes upon ruins from centuries before and as she is walking through a hatch pops up out of the ground and a boy with a glowing stone invites her to go below ground. Taking the long ladder down they stand in a huge cavern and he shows her a beatiful scene. Magic? Who knows! ^_^

Illustration Friday-Crunchy

Geez! It's 1am and my brain is going BLAH! haha!

This picture is 100% vector...(except for that super cute cat on the box of cat treats...my wife doesn't know about that yet, but she drew that before we got married. Sheesh, and she says she can't draw. :P haha)


I am very pleased with how this picture turned out...I focused on harmonious colors, and colors which would push and pull the picture...and especially NO black lines...(That was hard).

Something about Adobe Illustrator has fascinated me for years. I love the flexibility to change any part of the entire picture at a moments notice, and I notice that I have more fun than in Photoshop...I'm not exactly sure why.

Illustration Friday-Entangled

This picture was done with ink, watercolors and a tiny bit of Gouache. There was very little modifications in Photoshop after scanning that I had to do. Hope that you enjoy.

Process: Idea, rough sketches, Final sketch 1, 2, ink the lines, ink the blackness, watercolor: establish darks/lights, lighter undercolor, lightest under-color, paint colors, paint shadows, paint highlights with Gouache, paint outlines with ink. The end.
